About Cat
My name is Cat Davila and I am excited to be entering practice as a Clinical Social Work Associate!
Many times when I ask people what they hope therapy will be like, the story goes something like “I’ve tried therapy before and it helped a little but I want to dig deeper.” This usually means addressing early life experience that resulted in patterns of feeling that carry forward, impacting one’s sense of self and relationships in the present. It can feel like being haunted; aware of these echoes from the past, but uncertain how they influence you or how to get free of them.
If this is you, or if you’ve never tried therapy but are looking for that kind of deep digging, that’s the work that I’m most excited by. I find that these patterns of feeling originating in childhood experience tend to be active across all mental health diagnoses and impact every aspect of our lives. That said, I don’t see my work as “focused on the past.” I see it as focused on coming into the present and clarifying intentions for the future, taking full account of how the past has shaped our path.
Another way to get at what I think therapy is good for is with metaphors of untangling knots and weaving webs. Untangling knots means making progress in solving tricky problems, and weaving webs means building resources for supporting wellbeing. I consider it an honor and a privilege to accompany people on their healing journeys and am open to all kinds.
I offer both virtual and in-person sessions. If you see me on one of my virtual from-home days, you will likely get a two for one, in which my cat Ella attends, as pictured. This is a popular habit she has developed just for when I’m working!
